A Little Words About Us

The Story Star Standard

Welcome to the Story Star Standard. We are a professional book review service that believes great stories deserve to be seen. The Story Star Standard was made to meet the rise of A.I. and fears of the book marketplace becoming buried with A.I. slop.

The Story Star Standard is made up of professionals editors in the industry who work under a cohesive criteria based system which is internally reviewed for fairness. We aim to promote creativity and shine a light on remarkable writing outside the traditional publishing world. Our reviews are rooted in seven core categories: from narrative craft, to prose, to characters, to world-building, to theme. Each book is thoughtfully read with professional eyes and rating with care.

We know how personal books are and because of this we’re committed to being ethical, consistent, and encouraging in our reviews. Whether a book earns a star or not, our reviews aim to provide each author with clarity, professional insight, and respect.

What makes the Story Star Standard Different?

Whilst other book review systems exist we aim to bring something different, consistent, and professional:

1. Professional Criteria – Each book is evaluated using a consistent framework which is judged by professionals.

2. Constructive Feedback – Each review will focus on the book’s strength and weaknesses, offering the author areas of improvement instead of just critique.

3. Detailed – Each review is a detailed and comprehensive overview on the author’s book. Not only do we write an analysis of the book on each of the seven critique areas, we provide a marketable tagline that can be use, and a short overall summary for prospective readers and author marketing.

4. Ethical and Transparent – Each star is earned not paid for, paying for a review doesn’t guarantee a star, but it does guarantee detailed feedback, with books that didn’t receive a star will have a insightful explanation at the end of their review of what needs to happen for their book to achieve a star.

5. Author’s Integrity First – Our reviewers our asked to be objective, professional, but also considerate to authors, making sure feedback, particularly negative feedback, is focused on helping the author grow not knocking them down.
