A few Words About Us

The Story Star Standard

Welcome to the Story Star Standard. We are a professional book review service that believes great stories deserve to be seen. The Story Star Standard was created to combat the rise of A.I. in the self-publishing marketplace and to challenge the idea that self-published books are low quality.

At The Story Star Standard, we’re made up of professionals in the book industry who work under a clear, criteria-based system that’s internally reviewed for fairness. Our goal is to promote creativity and shine a light on remarkable storytelling outside of traditional publishing. Our reviews are rooted in seven core categories: narrative craft, prose, characters, dialogue, world & atmosphere, theme & concept, and format. Each submission is thoughtfully read through professional eyes and rated with care.

We know how deeply personal books are and because of this, we’re committed to being ethical, consistent, and encouraging in our reviews. Whether a book earns one star, three, or none, our reviews aim to provide each author with clarity, professional insight, and respect.

What makes the Story Star Standard Different?

While other book review systems exist, we aim to bring something distinct, with reviews that measure on a consistent rubric, are always done by professionals, and are genuinely helpful to the author. So what sets The Story Star Standard apart?

1. Professional Criteria – Each book is evaluated using a consistent framework and assessed by professionals in the book industry

2. Constructive Feedback – Each review will analyses the book’s strength and weaknesses, offering every author actionable insights rather than personal critique.

3. Detailed – Each review provides a detailed and comprehensive overview on the author’s book. Not only do we write an analysis across all seven criteria, we provide a marketable tagline, and a short overall summary for prospective readers that author’s can use for marketing.

4. Ethical and Transparent – Each star is earned, not bought. Paying for a review doesn’t guarantee a star, but it does guarantee detailed, professional feedback. Books that don’t receive a star will receive a explanation of what we believe needs to change to be awarded one.

5. Author’s Integrity First – Our reviewers are trained to be as objective as possible, professional, but also considerate to authors, ensuring feedback, particularly negative feedback, is focused on supporting the author grow, rather than simply critiquing.
